Cameras (phone and such too) are a bit taboo at The Box. However, I can never resist to snap something fun. These are fairly tame.
Some call it contrived; but, others totally love the hedonsim and (to some extent) almost anything goes attitude.
You may dance with Rhianna one night and the next you may see two women paint each others vaginas and make a Rorschach ink blot painting.

In any event as time has moved on I'm in a totally new place in NY and in my life.

I want to relaunch this as a fun side project with a bit more seriousness than before.

When I found out the Apple store on 5th Ave was open 24 hrs a day I thought to myself..."Who needs an iPod at 1am or a PowerBook at 6am?" The question was answered today when I found myself without a Secret Santa gift for the office and was a block away from the Apple store at 7:45 this morning. I don't know what the other 5 people in the store were doing while I was buying an iTunes gift card; but, I can certainly say the disheveled salesgirl was not happy about working the graveyard shift.

A bit of an homage to my friend Stavros. His youthful enthusiasm, not only his personal style; but, also in the way that he adores the entire industry is very refreshing. You can see in part on his blog, http://myfinewardrobe.blogspot.com, that he is exuberant about the subject and has become quite the little prolific writer on the matter. Note that English is his second language (even with that he writes better than many native speakers) so now and then there might be a few words that are used in the wrong context. I do enjoy his use of the word "super."

If he doesn't make it as a fashion journalist he certainly won't have a problem modeling.

Let's face it. This isn't my job so I don't have the time (and sometimes the desire) to go and sit somewhere and hope for someone interesting to walk by everyday of the week. It getting much colder makes me want to get to and from the office as quick as I can. But, in the event that I don't have anything for the day now and then I will "endorse" a product, look, style, brand, store, item or designer. I don't think I mistreat you with the amount of pictures I post compared to some others out there who might have one a day if that.

Before I was all over the board: Creme de La Mer, Maelin+Goetz face wash, Yves Saint Laurent toner, Chanel hydrating masque. Products are made to work together and as I was unhappy with my skin I realized that I was doing myself no good being inconsistent.
Therefore, I decided to consolidate and did so with Cellcosmet and Cellmen (the male specific formulated products part of the line). The 2x daily treatment begins with a face wash, using the activator gel (great cooling sensation), using toner and then using the hydrating face cream. The exfoiliator is by far the best thing I've ever used, if you want to feel my face email me (....please don't). You only need to once a week and it is the day I look forward to the most.
The product is fragrance free (but still doesn't have that weird fragrance free "smell") and works at the cellular level and is developed in a Swiss lab.

I feel that in many magazines (Details, GQ, etc) that when they discuss or show Thom Browne that often times the details, which set him apart from another $2500 sportcoat, are often overlooked. There is more to the jacket and suits than short hems and tight jackets.

Oil on canvas by Balthus, 1938. This angle was the only one that didn't have his face blocked out from the gallery lighting. I love his tie, I love how short his sleeves are and I love how his red socks punctuate the rest of the ensemble. The socks also seem "scrunched" down and loose which is interesting. Was that Balthus or were they actually like that?

This is a series of photographs (O'Brian) that are in the Hermes window right on the prime corner location on Madison Ave. It's interesting to see tattooed and pierced boys with dyed hair in the window to a store that you don't typically associate that with. A similar joy is derived in seeing people's reactions/expressions when they first make the Gaultier (and Margiela for that matter) link between Hermes and their ready-to-wear.

This is more about a lesson in approaching strangers than the overall styling (if her smile doesn't break the ice then I don't know what does!).

While I work "with" (in the same floor sense) Carla, I've never talked to her or approached her. Was a bit nervous even for someone that I "knew." But, it is a good lesson in having to go up to random people on the street and in about 10 sec getting their attention, explaning to them what you are doing and them allowing you to take their picture.

Anyways, stay on the lookout for more style (bubble dresses, paisely) from Carla beyond the red leggings that pop against the LBD and match the sole of her Louboutins.

I'm not a photographer (but, I've wanted an excuse to get into photography for along time) and I am not doing this to shake up the world of photography. I will do my best to capture everything to the best of my ability and with each day things will get better and better.

Will blogger savvy people please email me. I'm trying to figure out if blogger has a bandwith limit or if there is something special to do for them to host your photos. In the meantime I'll be using my photobucket account that has unmetered bandwith; but, it requires a bit more editing than I like because it doesn't resize the photo as blogger appeared to do on its own.

In the beginning...

Hopefully you've found my website via a friend who referred you, an internet search, random chance or if I gave you my card after taking your picture.

I am dissatisfied with the other "fashion/style" photoblogs that are out there today. They either seem too aloof or too smarmy and have such a strict point of view.

Therefore, after a push from some encouraging friends who know that I have world class eye for style from high to low (albeit I prefer the high, who doesn't?) I have decided to finally do it and establish my own New York based fashion/style photoblog: The Boy About Town.

I hope to capture anything that is striking in a good way or a bad way. I welcome comments of praise and I encourage "negative" comments (don't demean myself, the subjects, the photos or make rude or offensive remarks) that have a relevance to the matter at hand and are done with tact and composure.
Ex: "The outfit looks great but the Louis Vuitton monogram handbag really kills it for me." is a good one. "This trashy girl is so poor and attention starved that she has to save up for a year to buy a logo bag WHAT A LOSER!" is just in poor taste and will be deleted.

I look forward to capturing many images here in New York and as well in my travels. Other photoblogs really don't give an idea of the bloggers life in terms of subject matter. I hope to incorporate not only myself; but, some other crazy characters here in New York to make the blog seem much more accessible.

I have a lot of great ideas and themes in mind for photo series and I really look forward to the enjoyment that you'll take away from my blog as well as the personal enjoyment I get from the style of the world around me. Hopefully soon when I take someone's picture they'll say "Oh, you're that boy about town with the photoblog that I've heard about."
